This weekend was the bank holiday weekend here in the UK and on Saturday, for the first time in what seemed like an age, I woke up before sunrise to go and explore one of my local woodlands. To be honest, my expectations were low - mostly because I hadn’t explored the area much before but out I went in any case!
My favourite image ended up being the one below - this one tree - I think it’s a pine, stood out in a meadow of long grass and heather, I love the contrast between the deep green of the pine tree, the fog in the background and the purple on the foreground. The icing on the cake was the way that the sunlight glints slightly off the tangy orange tree bark. I’m definitely coming back to this location soon :)

I’ve recently been going through some of my photos from the last few months and there is one image in particular that I’ve begun to like more and more, the image below looking towards St Alphege Parish Church in Solihull. It’s a time blend of two photos, one for the city scape and one to find the right person walking down the street. As I begin to learn more and more about photoshop, I’m really enjoying thinking in the field about the end product - first taking the photos I need and then spending the time post processing until I get the image I want. I’m self taught and have spent a lot of time looking at YouTube to learn the various skills I needed to produce this shot.

I went to Crete recently with my better half and we decided to go to the local beach one evening to watch the sun set. I was debating whether to take the tripod with me but in the end (mainly due to being in a rush) decided against it.
Composition aside, I love the final image that I’ve put below for two main reasons:
Firstly I love the look of the warm rays of light reflecting off the breaking waves; and
Secondly I love the variation in texture across the image from the grainy sands at the bottom to the small but powerful waves in the middle and the cloudless sky at the top of the image.
If you’d like to know more about this or any other of the images I post, please do get in touch by using the “contact” button at the top right of the page.

Sunday 28 August 2021
August has been an extremely busy month on the personal front and we’ve even managed to squeeze in a short holiday to Southern Europe (or the “oven” as we’ve nicknamed it), which was fantastic, seeing as it was our first holiday abroad for a year.
On the photography front I’ve recently been experimenting with the “raw” camera feature on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, particularly as when I’m out and about running errands etc, the iPhone is much easier to carry then my Canon 5D Mark IV. I love being able to export the raw photos into Lightroom classic and be able to play around with the images that little bit more. The file sizes increase from about 3-5MB using the HEIC image format to 25MB in the raw format which means taking up more space in the cloud, but in my opinion it’s well worth it.
Below is an image I took of the river Blythe meandering through Solihull, I love how even in an urban area it still sometimes feels like being out in the country!
Enjoy your Sunday,

Today is what the British media are calling freedom day. I pretty sure that this era of COVID has still got a long time to go yet, but there’s always hope, eh? Moving swiftly on, this time last year I was getting ready to explore Sicily with my partner. I decided to take a recently purchased film camera and see if I could get into film photography. One of my favourite shots of the trip (although definitely not the best) is this image from one of the most famous churches in Hollywood Movie history - the church where Michael Corleone had his first marriage in the Godfather! For those interested, I shot this using Kodak Porta 400 35mm film. Have a great week ahead!

It’s a nice pleasant Sunday morning here in Solihull - particularly quiet after many people I’m sure were celebrating the football result last night! Before the match I went for an afternoon walk in my local woodlands to see whether I could find any simple compositions. I’ve included the pick of the bunch below - it’s nothing I’d ever submit for a competition but I do like the contrast of the purple flower in front of the dark tree trunk.

It’s been a while - certainly longer than intended since my last post and boy in that time have we been busy. I’m excited for the lockdown restrictions to finally come to an end over the next few weeks and looking forward to international borders opening up again. That being said here in the UK we have some beautiful scenery and places to visit. The image below was from a whistle stop visit to South Stack in Anglesey. I focus stacked the images in Adobe Photoshop to get the final result. Seascapes is definitely something I want to photography a lot more! Enjoy and Happy Fathers Day :)

Photography begins with doing, being out there with your camera, whether that’s your smart phone, an old film camera, or your top of the range DLSR. Today marks the beginning of me showcasing some of my work on an actual website … Eeeek! Here’s one from an overcast morning in Solihull town centre, let me know what you think. Happy Easter everyone :)
